Hey, I did what I said! I’m here again, and it hasn’t been over 6 months! Achievement unlocked.
I write about water and the moon too much. This is a given. In keeping with my track record, here’s another song about the moon for you. This is courtesy of modified Greek mythology this time, and was initially inspired by a random tarot card given to me during a FAWM writing challenge. I got the Nine of Wands, and the picture looked a lot like a staircase leading to the moon, unintentional as it probably was. Yay for being one of those people who would get interesting results on Rorschach tests.
Seeing as this was my first 2018 entry for FAWM, I have a vocal recording done during February also. It thankfully came out well enough for public consumption. Music get.
Stairway to Selene
by Gabrielle G.
I seek the way to reach her,
Her promised light is strong,
But when I think I’m almost there,
I’m proven to be wrong,
The steps stretch on forever,
I count them as I climb,
But numbers slip away from me,
I lose track every time.
The moon is far,
Her crooked smile shines,
She tempts my fate, but I must wait
Until the stars align,
The moon is high,
By lofty splendor crowned,
She casts a spell, I rise as well
And pray I don’t look down,
Don’t look down.
I do not seek to claim her,
My will is hers to bend,
And though the stairs are wreathed with thorns,
I can’t help but ascend,
The steps are old and fragile,
They creak beneath my feet,
Endurance is the only way
My soul will be complete.
The moon is far,
Her crooked smile shines,
She tempts my fate, but I must wait
Until the stars align,
The moon is high,
By lofty splendor crowned,
She casts a spell, I rise as well
And pray I don’t look down,
Don’t look down.
The endless steps are tiring,
They weigh me down like lead,
I want to pause to rest a while,
But stay the course instead,
Perhaps I will not find her,
Will she deign to appear?
It cannot be, but I could swear
She’s already been here.
The moon is far,
Her crooked smile shines,
She tempts my fate, but I must wait
Until the stars align,
The moon seems near,
A strange, familiar gleam,
But I forget if we have met,
Or if that was a dream.
The moon is high,
By lofty splendor crowned,
She casts a spell, I rise as well
And pray I don’t look down,
Don’t look down,
Don’t look down,
Don’t look down.
